Jocelyn Willoughby Receives August WNBA Cares Community Assist Award Presented By State Farm®

October 10, 2022 – New York Liberty guard/forward Jocelyn Willoughby has been named the recipient of the August WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm for her commitment to challenging racial and economic injustices, and providing resources to help vulnerable individuals in New York and society at large.

Willoughby’s focus in the community includes education, food insecurity, and equal housing opportunities for all communities.  Alongside her teammates and Liberty staff, Willoughby hosted two sessions with participants from the Vera Institute, which aims to zero out the incarceration of girls and gender-expansive youth in the country’s juvenile legal system by 2030.  The participants watched practice and participated in group activities and a discussion with the team.

Willoughby’s commitment to giving back to youth included an appearance at Breakaway Hoops camp, where she interacted with the youth in attendance.  Breakaway Hoops provides premium basketball camps, leagues, clinics, and remote training for families throughout NYC.  Additionally, she joined her teammates and Liberty staff in serving dinner to over 115 members of the unhoused NYC community at the Bowery Mission.

The WNBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by State Farm® is awarded monthly during the season to the player who best reflects the WNBA’s passion to make a difference in the community.
