New York Liberty Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Title IX

During the 2022 WNBA season, the New York Liberty celebrated the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which removed barriers that prevented women from having equal access to education and athletics.


June 15, 2022 – The Liberty teamed up with ESPN and McAllister Olivarius to host an extended screening of ESPN’s documentary, “37 Words.” Following the screening, Liberty CEO Keia Clarke joined a panel discussion on the impact of Title IX on her own journey and what the future holds for women in sport and across all industries.


June 21, 2022 – In collaboration with Alliance For Health, Liberty CEO, Keia Clarke, hosted a virtual panel focused on inclusion in sports and physical education through the lens of belonging. Panelists shared about their own experiences in sport, and how further inclusion can foster greater trust, safety, and belonging.

Other panelists included:

  • Loretta Claiborne – Chief Inclusion Officer, Special Olympics
  • Tiff Cunin – Senior Program Manager, National Recreation and Park Association
  • Becca Meyers – Paralympic Gold Medalist, World Champion, Advocate for Disability Equity, U.S Paralympics

June 23, 2022 – According to Women’s Sports Foundation, by age 14 girls drop out of sports at two times the rate of boys. Being engaged in sports provides girls imperative life skills including, confidence, teamwork and leadership.

The New York Liberty hosted a free Title IX Anniversary basketball clinic for girls around New York City. Participants learned the history of Title IX, participated in drills, and took part in mindfulness yoga practices. Partnering with HSS and CorePower Yoga, the participants had an opportunity to warm-up with HSS, and cool down with CorePower Yoga.
